Swatching provides a way to test your ideas before scaling them up. The Swatch Maker Loom line was created as a doodling device to assist me in making my own projects specifically for the rigid-heddle weaving world in the setts I most commonly use.

These little looms are handy for yarn substitutions, testing sett selection and structure combinations, and playing around with color. Even if you have just a tiny bit of yarn to spare, you can make an effective swatch to use before you dive into a larger project. 

About the Swatch Maker 3-in-1

The Swatch Maker 3-in-1 allows you to make three differently sett swatches—8, 10, or 12—from a single loom. This is a perfect loom for weaving small comparison pieces when you are on the fence about sett and color choices.

This loom is most beneficial to the weaver who has woven for awhile and wants to add swatching into their weaving life. You can certainly sample on any existing loom you have, but it is more difficult to switch up the sett if you want to make a different choice mid-weave. (Keep in mind, you can always change your weft size to accommodate a miss-step in sett.)

Swatching on a small loom saves you yarn and perhaps a bit of time, although it is a misnomer that swatching is fast. It can be compared to weaving a large product, but all weaving takes time. What swatching does is save you time in the long run, allowing you to weave larger projects that you feel really good about. Swatching is what I think of as pure play with no pressure. 

After years of making my own tools—sanding popsicle sticks, building looms in multiple setts from various materials, and cutting out cardboard shuttles or purchasing frame looms in setts I don’t commonly use and adapting them as best I could—I was ready for a tool made just for my world and that would last better under the rigors of use. I offer these looms to you as a tool to play around with your own ideas. 

Loom Features

The loom measures approximately 7" x 5 1/2″ with a work space of approximately 4 3/4" x 5". The loom is made of 1/8" maple wood in the U.S.

Flat hardwood back allows you to work anywhere—on a table or in your lap. It allows the weaver to create fringe by wrapping the yarn around the loom without having it get in the way of the weaving process. 

The sett platform is raised off the backing giving you room to maneuver your tools.

The prongs are spaced at 8 ends per inch (e.p.i.). The middle set of holes are spaced at 10 e.p.i. The bottom set of holes are spaced at 12 e.p.i.

All components (wood, needles, cotton project bag, instructions, etc.) are sourced from U.S. businesses and produced and assembled in the U.S. The looms and tools are packaged in recycled or recyclable materials. Due to manufacturing constraints, supplies may be limited and prices may fluctuate.

I ship via USPS. As a solopreneur, I do my best to timely get the products out the door in less than 72 hours. Please understand that there are a lot of shipping disruptions and constraints and there may be some delays that are out of my control.
