Weaver’s PlayBox: Wool (Pattern Only)

The PlayBox series is a collaboration between Yarnworker and Gist Yarn & Fiber. Our goal was to create a series of boxes that introduced rigid-heddle weavers to yarn staples and the inspiration to use them.
Our focus when developing the PlayBoxes was on small North American yarn makers who create small batch yarns that will bring joy to your loom. You can learn more about the development of the PlayBox in my conversation with Sarah Resnick in episode 73 of the Weave podcast.
Each box focuses on a particular fiber and sett. PlayBox 1 concentrated on a variety of wools in a sett of 8 for scarves, PlayBox 2 concentrated on Cottons and Cotton Linen blends in a sett of 10 for towels, and PlayBox 3 concentrated on fine blends in a sett of 12 for wraps.
Gist is no longer stocking the yarns for PlayBoxes 1 and 3. PlayBox 2 is still stocked. It contains all of Gist Yarn's house brands.

About PlayBox 1: Wool Pattern
In conjunction with the publication of A Weaver’s Guide to Yarn, I teamed up with Gist Yarn to bring you a bit of fun. The Weaver’s PlayBox pattern featured a dozen ways to weave up five different yarns. .
Included in the 11 page pattern are lots of tips for the new weaver.
Equipment Requirements
Rigid-heddle loom with at least a 9" weaving width; 8-dent rigid heddle (you can use a 7.5 to get a similar look, you will use a little less yardage); 2 stick shuttles. Optional: pick-up stick and additional shuttles.
The pattern was designed to make the most of 5 skeins of yarn. Each Scarf requires about 250 yd of yarn (135 yd warp, 115 yd weft). Finished size about 6" by 60" with 5" fringe.

Brown Sheep Lanaloft, worsted-weight, worsted spun singles, 100% wool, 160 yd per 3.5 oz (100 g) skein in Cottage White (LL01).
Cestari Mt. Vernon Collection, worsted- weight, woolen spun 2-ply, 100% Merino Wool, 170 yds per 3.5 oz (100g) skein in Spruce Blue (179123).
Mountain Meadow Wool Alpine, 3-ply DK- weight, worsted spun, 100% Mountain U.S. Merino-Targhee Wool, 255 yd per 3.5 oz (100g) skein in Sorrel.
Brown Sheep Prairie Spun, DK-weight, worsted spun, 3-ply 100% hand-painted U.S. wool; 256 yd per 3.5 oz (100 g) skein in Snowy Thicket (PSDK230).
Mountain Meadow Wool Natural Grays, semi-worsted, fingering-weight, 2-ply, 100% Mountain Merino, 25o yd per 2 oz (57 g) skein in Silver.
