Couldn't load pickup availability
The weave-alongs are free events hosted three or four times a year at the YarnworkerU and supported by the YarnworkerU Members. There is no cost while they are active. The weave-along patterns are offered on a pay what you wish bases with a suggested price listed above.
About This Weave-Along
This weave-along has been one of those bucket list weaves for me. I have long had in my mind’s eye creating a collection of textiles that would incorporate clasped warp and weft elements along with structures other than plain weave. Since flavors and patterns are some of my favorite things, table linens seemed like the perfect fit. You could certainly adapted these techniques to a wide range of forms.

Weave-Along Details
Who: Advanced Beginner
A basic understanding of direct warping and weaving vocabulary is all you need to join this weave-along. Even if you have never used two heddles before, this is a very approachable way to dive in or you can adapt the two-heddle projects to a single heddle.
What
This weave-along has three different options.
- Two plain weave napkins one featuring clasped warp and the other clasped weft measuring 12.5” by 13” with ½” fringe.
- Two 1/2 twill placemats one featuring clasped warp and the other clasped weft 12” by 10” with a 1” fringe.
- Mixed twill table runner with clasped warp and weft elements 21” by 8” with 1” fringe.
Weave one, two, or all three.
Yarn and Sett
All projects are designed to fit a 15-inch wide loom. I will share tips for using a double heddles in a single heddle block. We are using the direct method and doubling all the ends to thread slots and holes at the same time.}
You should be able to weave all four projects as designed with two colors each of 8/4 or 8/2 Maurice Brassard unmercized cotton put up on spools. 3/2 cotton can be substituted for the 8/4.
NAPKINS
- Yarn Warp and Weft: 8/2 unmercerized cotton, 3,360 yd/lb (6,775 m/kg) shown in Maurice Brassard put up on 1,680 yd/8 oz (1,536 m/227g) tube in Framboise (5193) and Ivoire (1451).
- Sett and Heddles 10-dent rigid-heddle with a sett density of 100%. Sett calculation: 10 (heddle size) x 1 (sett density) x 2 (doubled ends) = 20 ends per inch (e.p.i)/10 spaces per inch
- Warp 485 total yd. About 345 main color (A), 140 yd clasping color (B), amounts can vary depending on design choices.
- Weft 80 yd About 73 yd, main color (A), 7 yd clasping color (B).
PLACEMATS
- Yarn Warp and Weft: 8/4 unmercerized cotton, 1,680 yd/lb (3,390 m/kg) shown in Maurice Brassard put up on 840 yd/8 oz (768 m/227g) tube in Framboise (5193) and Ivoire (1451).
- Sett and Heddles Two 7.5 or 8 dent rigid heddles with a sett density of 1.25%. Because we will cram the slots to account for the second heddle’s holes, there are more ends per inch than the heddle size would indicate. This is expressed as a percentage of the heddle size. Sett calculation: 7.5 (heddle size) x 1.25 (sett density) x 2 (doubled ends) = 18.75 e.p.i/7.5 spaces per inch or 8 (heddle size) x 1.25 (sett density) x 2 (doubled ends) = 20 e.p.i/8 spaces per inch.
- Warp 7.5 dent: 875 total yd, about 645 main color (A), 230 yd clasping color (B), amounts can vary depending on design choices. 8-dent will use about 10% more yardage.
- Weft 75 yd About 55 yd, main color (A), 20 yd clasping color. 8-dent will use about 10% more yardage.
RUNNER
- Yarn Warp and Weft: 8/4 unmercerized cotton, 1,680 yd/lb (3,390 m/kg) shown in Maurice Brassard put up on 840 yd/8 oz (768 m/227g) tube in Framboise (5193) and Ivoire (1451).
- Sett and Heddles Two 5- dent rigid heddles with a sett density of 1.47%. As with the placemats, we have to cram the slots to account for the second heddle’s holes so there are more ends per inch than the heddle size would indicate. We will also skipp some spaces to accommodate the structure. Sett calculation: 5 (heddle size) x 1.47 (sett density) x 2 (doubled ends) = 14.7 e.p.i/5 spaces per inch.
- Warp 200 yd. About 190 main color (A), 10 yd color (B), amounts can vary depending on design choices. To maximize yardage you may want to switch the yarn you are using for Color A and B.
- Weft 50 yd About 40 yd, main color (A), 10 yd clasping color (B).
Note on Substitutions
If you plan to only use a single heddle for all three projects, you could use 8/4 cotton in an 8-dent for the placemats and runner.
If you don’t have 5-dents you can use two 8-dents for the runner, using 8/4 in the warp and 8/2 in the weft. The motifs will be smaller.
When
February 14: Official Opening: Pattern available along with video tips on sett and project modifications
February 28: Warping Video Tips

March 28: Finishing Video Tips
April 4: Celebrate!
There are two weeks between video drops. By March 14, you will have the majority of the information you need to complete the projects.
Where
The weave-along will be hosted at YarnworkerU, the new home of Yarnworker weave-alongs and classes. The current weave-alongs are open to anyone who would like to weave-along with us. I’ve created an Allcomers membership level that give you access to the current weave-along, the discussion thread in the forum, and this weave-alongs Q&A at now charge. The pattern is available on a pay what you wish basis in the Yarnworker Shop.
In order to register for the weave-along using the Allcomers level, you will have to sign up as a member using some form of payment. This is to prevent spambots from accessing the registration form.
How
Weave-alongs are made possible by YarnworkerU members (formerly supported by Patreon pledges). Members get access to all previous weave-alongs, the Yarnworker curriculum, extra resources, and monthly live sessions and get-togethers.
